A song about mortality, and making the moment count.

Parrka* introduces Waterrmarrk* with “We’re All Going To The Coroner,” the album’s first single, released through Silver Gun Records. Wry and introspective, it pairs a reflection on loss with a decision to enjoy the time we have.

The people behind the record

Hal Williams &
Brooke Magidson

Baton Rouge-born Hal Williams performs as Parrka*, following his work as pyramid vritra and Vritra. His music draws together electronic music, punk, pop and rap, with synth lines, drum sampling, guitar and loops carrying a futuristic sound and Southern charm.

On “We’re All Going To The Coroner,” Williams supplies vocals, drums and bass. Brooke Magidson plays guitar, and the two share production credits.

More about Parrka*

Mortality, with room for the moment

Williams wrote the song while reflecting on his place in the socioeconomic world and the deaths of several family members and family friends. That personal experience gives the title its weight. In his project notes, he describes its outlook as:

“a pessimistic acceptance of the fate, and a decision to revel in the moment anyway.”

The song also considers a world in which the artificial begins to feel real, falsehood becomes accepted as fact and creative effort can be reduced to a prompt. Questions about mortality sit alongside questions about truth, agency and finding a footing in a changing culture.

The mark behind Waterrmarrk*

The album’s title comes from the idea of a watermark: a mark that identifies origin and authenticity. For Williams, Waterrmarrk* serves as a signature sound and a foundation for what comes next.

Much of the album was tracked inside a parked FIAT 500 in Southern California garages and parking lots, with supplementary guitar work by Magidson. The November 4 studio shoot extends that spirit of experimentation through reflection, light and framing.
