New Music Feature: Mariposa

Sometimes, the best songs are not planned, they just happen. Mariposa is one of those rare moments. Born out of a songwriting camp in Norway, the track brought together four artists from different worlds: Paris-based singer-songwriter Morjane Ténéré, Oslo’s experimental producer edderkoppsnegla, Finnish multi-genre artist h.engis, and Oslo indie folk songwriter Julie Berg. With only five hours to write, record, and produce, the group channeled their diverse backgrounds into something immediate, alive, and transformative.

A Song of Transformation

Spanish for “butterfly,” Mariposa is about shedding old skins, embracing uncertainty, and unfolding new wings. The track fuses glitchy hyperpop with flamenco-inspired emotion, Nordic rap cadences, and haunting electronic textures. Layered with vocals in Spanish, Finnish, and Norwegian, the song becomes a multilingual conversation about metamorphosis that is fragile, chaotic, and deeply liberating.

The Moment It Happened

For the collaborators, the magic was in the process. On the final day of the camp, with no expectations and little time, they found themselves in the same room for the first time. What followed felt more like alchemy than songwriting. Lyrics and melodies poured out in three languages, blending seamlessly into a track that felt both spontaneous and intentional. As they put it: “Mariposa flowed like a spell.”

Beyond the Collaboration

Each artist brings their own distinct world into the song. Ténéré carries the weight of desert symbolism and Northern African traditions. edderkoppsnegla brings experimental sound design and the raw edge of everyday noise turned musical. h.engis blends indie, pop, folk, and rap into something fluid and introspective. Berg adds lyrical melancholy and acoustic textures rooted in indie folk and rock. Together, those worlds do not clash. They merge.

What’s Next

Though Mariposa was born in a flash, its spirit lingers. For the artists, it marked not just a collaboration but a reminder of what can happen when you let go of expectations and create freely. Looking forward, they each continue to expand their solo projects while leaving the door open to future collaborations. As they put it: “We want to reach more hearts, to move, inspire, and create something that resonates across cultures and borders.”
